24 May 2011 a new 1000-krone banknote, was issued as the final banknote in the new 2009 series.
Format: 165 mm x 72 mm.
Issued on 25 November 2004 series 1997 was issued with a hologram and fluorescent colours. The motifs and format are the same as the previous 1,000-krone banknote issued on 18 September 1998.

The portraits
The face of the banknote bears a double portrait of the artists Anna and Michael Ancher (18 August 1859 - 15 April 1935, and 9 June 1849 - 19 September 1927). The couple are both acclaimed for their paintings, which specially depict everyday life in the fishing town of Skagen. The works of Anna and Michael Ancher are on display at e.g. Skagen Museum. The double portrait is inspired by two paintings by the artist P.S. Krøyer in 1884. The paintings were originally part of the panelled walls in the dining room at Brøndums Hotel in Skagen.
The banknote's background pattern of anchors does not refer directly to the artists' surname, but to a necklace worn by Anna Ancher.
Tournament scene on the reverse
A tournament scene from a sepulchral monument in Bislev Church in northern Jutland was the inspiration for the motif on the reverse of the 1,000-krone banknote.
